Trekking to the Glacier of the Osorno volcano

The classic silhouette of the volcano colored from its feet – on the Llanquihue lake – and up to bottom of the glacier by the green of the Valdivian rain forest, where – depending on the season – the dark color of the rocks is bleached by snow descending from its snowy summit.

Located within the National Park Vicente Pérez Rosales the Osorno volcano puts us in a prime location to enjoy from above the lake region. Slightly shifted to the west of the Andes mountain range divides the waters of the lakes Todos Los Santos and Llanquihue, shapes the river of turquoise waters and was responsible for creating the Petrohue water falls.

The trek to the glacier starts one hour before sunrise (when the weather forecast is good), to receive the first light of the day high in the mountain. A show of orange colors and silhouettes projected or fleeting clouds and Patagonian winds, that will recharge us and push us up to the 2.000m, to meet the glacier and when the conditions are fine have a walk on it.

In the other hand, when the weather forecast shows snow and rain, the trekking changes it goal from enjoy the panoramic views of the Llanquihue lake and majesty of the volcano to experience a mountain trekking in adverse conditions. To feel the wind and push our own limits, knowing that we will have a couple of places to protect us and rest, and a cosy refugio where to be back, take out our wet clothes and enjoy a warm drink. To experience our way more than the point that we want to reach!
