Ice Climbing in the Osorno Volcano

Glaciers have shaped the landscape of southern Chile: crevasses and seracs allow us to enjoy safely the world of ice climbing.

Located within the National Park Vicente Pérez Rosales the Osorno volcano puts us in a prime location to enjoy from above the lake region. Slightly shifted to the west of the Andes mountain range divides the waters of the lakes Todos Los Santos and Llanquihue, delimits the river of turquoise waters and was responsible for creating the Saltos del Petrohue.

Our trip begins in Pto. Varas at 06:00 a.m. driving to the Osorno and trek to the base of the glacier. After an overview of glacier travel techniques and ice climbing basics, we will select an adequate area for belay and set some tope-rope ice climbing routes.
